Macon is host to some amazing events carefully planned by organizations invested in seeing our community and citizens thrive. Macon Beer Fest is no exception. Since the first event in 2010, the festival has grown into one of Georgia’s premier craft beer events. Breweries from all over the state get involved with over 50 beers to sample. A few extra brews are in store if you have VIP tickets! Of course, some of my favorite brewers will be represented including Macon Beer Company, Piedmont Brewery, and Red Hare Brewing Company. I for one can’t wait to get out and sample some amazing beers. More importantly, this festival has a much more meaningful purpose.
A party without music would be almost as bad as a party without beer. Fortunately, Macon Beer Fest has us covered. Free Lance Ruckus will be there to bring some southern alternative rock to the event. Personally, I appreciate hearing a band who writes and plays the music they love and these guys are a perfect example. Follow them on Facebook to know when and where they’re playing and support local music the next time you’re out.
Another class act out of Atlanta will be there to get you dancing with music best described as western swing. As a sax player, I am a sucker for anything in swing time. Caleb and the Gents certainly bring a unique western feel to swing music. If you can’t imagine what I’m talking about, give them a listen here. I am looking forward to seeing both of these groups and hope to see you there too! My toes are tapping already.
Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer in the United States. So common in fact that one in eight men will be diagnosed in their lifetime. I have watched a loved one battle prostate cancer and it takes a strong individual to overcome this disease. The good news is that detected early prostate cancer is 100% treatable. That’s where Pints for Prostates comes in. We all love beer. As a matter of fact, Pints for Prostates considers beer to be a universal language.
Men of all backgrounds and races can appreciate a great brew. That is why the mission of Pints for Prostates is “Reaching men through the universal language of beer.” Using beer festivals, brewery partnerships, and social media they aim to communicate the importance of regular health screenings and early detection. So committed are they to this cause, that free PSA blood test screenings will be provided at Macon Beer Fest for men over 40. Don’t worry – they’re not checking your BAC!
If you haven’t already, get your tickets here. Also, consider heading over to Pints for Prostates and support their cause by donating or picking up some swag. Can’t wait to see you on August 26th from 3 pm to 7 pm. I will be volunteering from 4:30 pm to 7 pm at the Pints for Prostates tent. Stop by and say hello. Until then – Cheers!
